Antihistamines: Claritin is available generic & otc, & effective. Nasal saline spray, or using a neti pot, may also help.

Be careful: For a runny nose & sneezing otc antithistamines like zyrtec, Allegra & Claritin (loratadine) are good. Their generic forms - cetirizine, fexofenadine & loratidine are equally effective & less costly. But "night coughing" makes me think about asthma. There are no otc medications for asthma. If your husband's symptoms do not resolve with antihistamines he will have to see a health care professional.
