Minutes to days.: The stinging nettle (urtica dioida) contains different chemicals depending on the subspecies, which can include: serotonin, histamine, formic acide, acetylcholine, moroidin ; leukotrienes. Small hair- like needles inject chemical into the skins which causes redness, swelling (welts) intense pain ; possibly itching. It may take minutes to days to resolve.
