Age matters : I'm a pediatrician, but hope i can still give you helpful advice. In babies and children, we treat ear infex based on the degree of illness and/or discomfort with the infex. Fluid can be present behind the eardrum with an acute ear infection. If it does not resolve and/or it's adversely affecting one's hearing, we are quicker to act on that. See an ENT (ear/nose/throat) specialist.
