I'm wondering what is the exact meaning of "probing" in dental sense?

It's a measurement.: Probing, or measurement of probing depths is this simple and basic way to evaluate the health of your gums. That is when your dentist, or periodontist insert a very thin ; pointy ruler just around your teeth at gumlines to measure the distance between your gumline and your bone (almost) . .. And don't worry it shouldn't be painful ! this measurement should be less than 3 mm. In healthy gums.
