I'm wondering what does a scab after an extraction look like?

Soft, wet "scab": "scab" sounds like peel-able, hard, dry skin covering, so typically dentists call the area "wound" or "socket" to point the area where extraction took place. You will see red blood in the area first; then it turns dark red as it clots; then more yellowish as the blood's "heme" breaks down; then lighter yellow, and gray-white. It will then slough off to expose baby-fine, new gum skin underneath!
