Lots of things: Follow orthodontic specialist's instructions to the letter. Keep teeth/gums scrupulously clean. Totally avoid hard/sticky/chewy foods (no cheating). Wear auxiliaries, such as rubber bands, exactly as directed. Comes down to cooperation. The better you follow your orthodontist's instructions, the sooner your appliances will come off, and won't that be a wonderful day.
