A member asked:

Docs can you explain, is the side of my tooth supposed to turn grey after getting a filling?

Grey tooth: It sounds like you had an amalgam filling placed and the dark color is transmitted through a thin part of your enamel. This is one of the disadvantages of amalgam fillings. Speak to the dentist who treated you. Discuss your observations and my answer. You could discuss the possibility of replacing the filling with a tooth colored composite filling or a ceramic crown.

Color change: The amalgam filling material oxidizes with age the filling material often changes color from silver to black and makes teeth look grey, discolored and unattractive.
