A member asked:

Why does pulse tapering when holding the breath after a deep inspiration? is it pathological?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Decrease pulse?: I think you mean that your pulse decreases when you take a deep breath and hold your breath. Breathing cycles the blood return to the heart via the intrathoracic pressures. Holding breath on the other hand is like a valsalva maneuver which increases the pressures sensed by the carotid bodies, and hence decreases heart rate.
