Allergies: Your intermittent cough is most likely due to environmental allergies, and possibly asthma. There are over-the-counter antihistamines which could help reduce the symptoms, and if they don't resolve the problem then use of nasal steroid spray and inhaled steroids may help stop the problem. Your primary care doctor will be able to help you find the correct diagnosis and treatment.
