Vocal cord issue: Involvement of the larynx (voice box) usually includes the (true) vocal cords but other structures can be involved. Painless hoarseness can be caused by vocal cord paralysis, tumors, inflammation (including "singers nodes"), extrinsic laryngeal compression by masses (such as thyroid or esophagus). Pain or not, if it is persistent have an ENT exam.
