Anatomy: Hernia surgery if done correctly holds the contents in to the abdomen completely. It sounds like the first question would be is your husband gaining weight and is this just fat? If you think the surgery was done incorrectly then please get your husband in to see the family doctor for an examination.

Hernia surgery: That's not normal. He should go back to the surgeon for an examination. Further diagnostic imaging such as a ct scan may be indicated in order to look at his abdominal organs and assess for fluid build up in his abdomen.
