How is sugary food the biggest culprit for cavities?

Cavities: Sugar feeds the bacteria on your teeth and the bacteria produce acids that destroy your teeth. The are specific bacteria, strep mutans for one, that cause decay. So it you can reduce these bacteria with brushing and flossing, or consuming xylitol and you limit sugars, then you decrease decay.

Cavities: Some of the bacteria that live in our mouth take sugars and convert them into acids which etch the calcium out of tooth enamel, leaving an ever-enlarging hole. High sugar diets also trigger Type II Diabetes.
