More symptoms: Usually back pain related to kidneys happen at rest and is continuous and is associated with other symptoms ( blood in urine, fever...) if you have any of these you should call your physician.

More severe: Kidney type pain such as kidney stones is excruciating and incapacitating ...Average low back pain is not as severe....But at times can mimick one another..See your internist to rule out kidney involvement , maybe a urology or nephrologist consult...If all is ok than see you orthopaedic spine specialist.
