A member asked:

First aid to lowering high blood pressure and when is it a state of emergency? presume there are no past conditions known.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rarely emergent: It's never good to lower BP fast! it becomes a more urgent issue if there are symptoms present: angina, heart failure, encephalopathy. In that circumstance, gradual reduction in BP over several hours is indicated.
