Inflamation: Pericarditis is inflamation of the sack around the heart. Pushing on your chest will not reproduce the pain. Some changes in position will. Costochondritis is inflamation in the chest wall. Applying pressure will cause the pain to increase.

Hard at times: Both can present with chest pain pericarditis may also have palpitations and shortness of breath with it even at rest. Costochondritis is usually more tender to touch and only apparent on motion or deep breathing. You need to be evaluated medically with possible ekg andcechocardiogram to fully evaluate.
