I had surgery and in the or they put a foley catheter in me without consent . surgery was 2hrs. uti are rampant. there should be consent. its my bod?

Standard: Depending on what is done, there are many potential benefits to you from having a urinary catheter. It's not used in all surgical procedures, but for example, if abdominal surgery is planned it will help keep the bladder deflated so as to reduce risk of injury to your bladder. Furthermore, over-distention of the bladder can cause irreversible inability to urinate; catheter prevents this.

It is implied: You should be told or prepared. If surgery takes excessive time than you need foley. I generally prepare my patients to know what to expect. No seperate consent needed for foley.
