You can refuse: But what's the point. It's not a really big deal, and provides a level of protection for you despite it's seeming indignity. That's not really the big issue here anyway, and after you are home and back in normal sinus rhythm you probably won't care that you had a catheter. They are putting one in your heart anyhow! and that is the big issue.
