Neurological exam: Of the eyes evaluates how the pupils react and the appearance of the back of the eyes. This may be somewhat difficult if the patient has small pupils or if they have something like a cataract which will block the view of the back of the eyes.

Anything abnormal: The neurologist will normally detect pupillary reaction abnormalities with a light. Also they use an ophthalmoscope to look at the back of the eye and some are skilled at this to look for abnormalities which might reflect changes in the nervous system. It there is some doubt, they will usually refer you to an ophthalmologist.
