Treated toxin: Tetanus differs from some vaccines in that altering the germ in some form is not part of the process. The chemical "toxin" produced by the germ is treated to inactivate it.From that inactivated "toxoid", a vaccine is created so you can develop protective antibodies to the active toxin.
