Light flashes in eye. can it be anything else but a detached retina?

Sure!: Migraine, occipital lobe avm, vitreous separation. But you must get retinal tear/detachment ruled out promptly by ophthalmologist.

Yes: There are many retina disorders which can cause flashing lights. The most common one is a posterior vitreous detachment. This symptom is a red flag and you should see an ophthalmologist and have a dilated exam, and if needed, referral to a retina specialist.
