A member asked:

I have hashimoto's disease how is it treated? how long does it last?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thyroid hormone/life: Hypothyroidism caused by hashimoto's thyroiditis is treated with thyroid hormone replacement agents like levothyroxine or desiccated thyroid extract. In most cases, the treatment needs to be taken for the rest of the patient's life. This is an autuoimmune disease, so as long as the patient's thyroid is active, the body will continue to attack it, sot treatment is ongoing.
