Recover?: You don't need to do anything but allow the anesthetic to wear off. Then, don't chew on the new dental work for the next day or so. That will allow the filling to set (silver amalgam) or cure (tooth-colored composite) completely. If the tooth is not comfortable, take advil or tylenol (acetaminophen) in first 2-3 days. Call dentist if symptoms persist more than 3 days.
