Yes: We are trying to cut back somewhat on antibiotic use. There are too many resistant strains of bacteria now, and we don't want to help creat any more than we have to. So, your dentist seems to feel you have a good enough healing potential to not need an antibiotic. Good for you and your dentist!

Smart dentist: We don't always give antibiotics for every procedure. You dentist may have felt that the removal was no big deal. And to just give you an antibiotic for the heck of it is not what I would recommend. Be stingy with your use of antibiotics...because one day you may really need one and it won't be effective because you kept on taking a variety of them for every little thing. Trust the doctor.

Quite Normal: In the vast majority of cases, antibiotics will do very little (or nothing at all) for an infected tooth. It's much more effective to remove the tooth and let your body heal normally. Once the tooth is gone, the infection usually clears up within just a couple of days. And, you don't have any of the potential side effects of antibiotics. In rare cases, if the infection lingers, antibiotics may ok.
