Leaky Gut: Leaky gut is referring to an increased permeability of the intestinal tract. In the area of the small intestines where nutrients are absorbed, there are tight junctions between the cells. In leaky gut, the tight junctions aren't so tight anymore. This is very often associated with a reaction to gluten. There is a test that uses lactulose and mannose, but we often just treat without it.

"Pop" diagnosis: Mainstream medicine knows little about the impact of food choices on overall health. "Leaky gut" is real and it's at the physician's discertion with informed consent to the patient. You do need to know that any suggestion that most autoimmune disease or mental illness is due to "leaky gut" would be, at this time, irresponsible.
