Pinched nerve: A patch of numbness around the shoulder can be due to a pinched nerve in your neck. Undergoing a physical exam and getting an x-ray of your cervical spine would be necessary to confirm this diagnosis.

Unusual: Local trauma or surgery, or injections could damage a cutaneous nerve. Does not sound dangerous.
