This is not uncommon: Having a nose bleed 3 times in one year is not something too uncommon or dangerous. It is more common in conditions where the air is not very humid - and the nostrils become dry. He may have allergies that are contributing to the bleeding too. If he sneezes a lot or has frequent runny nose he may have allergies. Allergies often cause the inside of the nose to itch, which leads to scratching...
