One way to do this: Is to use a lower bar. Your feet will touch the ground and your legs will be at an angle. This type of pull up is often easier (because some of your weight is supported). The location of your center of gravity will impact the ease or difficulty of this exercise.

Work arms & back.: To get really good at pull-ups, you need to increase strength mainly in your biceps and lats, as they're engaged in that movement. Lat pull downs, rows and biceps curls will help. Heavier weights for strength and lighter weights with more reps for endurance.
