Macular degeneration: Is when the layer of cells of the back of the retina do not function well, leaving deposits called drusen mostly in the central vision area, the macula. This is caused by the age ing process, things that can damage the retina cells, ie uv light, and can be related to nutritional deficiencies. This entity is called age related macular degeneration( amd). Risk factors include old age, family histor.
