Scientific Rx: If topical benzoyl peroxide 5% 2x/day has not cleared you in two weeks, get with your personal physician. Acne can be managed until it eventually self-cures. You did not cause it, but you owe it to yourself to manage it. It sounds as if you will need prescription-strength medication. I did -- until i was 50, and am glad that i was always compliant. Best wishes.

See a dermatologist: Acne treatment is largely directed by what kinds of lesions you have. And if this is a new problem at age 45 then there could be other reasons why it has happened. I suggest you see a dermatologist to evaluate what is going on and to determine the best treatment for you.
