Doctor oversight: As an infectious diseases specialist, I have performed this procedure successfully. The risks include: unscreened donor stool may have other microbes that can cause disease; perforation of the colon; and unforeseen adverse effects from products produced by the microbes in the donor stool, including an allergic reaction. For these reason, a doctor needs to be involved, for the safety of the pt.
