Yes, but also...: Some infections can cause spotting, but it is more common that a vaginal infection presents with other signs. Pain is common, especially with intercourse, and a discharge is expected. It can be yellow, mucousy, and occasionally with some blood. Itching can occur, and a change in odor. More serious infections can lead to fever, and so on. More common cause for you is abnormal period bleeding.

Yes: A change in the flow, increase or the nature of the flow can be signs of infection. In addition are increase in the severity of menstrual cramps. Foamy or creamy discharge as well. One, all, or any combination can be seen.
