Arthritis: It is very common for one who has been active to have degenerative or arthritic changes of the thoracic and lumbar spine. This may lead to back pain, muscle spasms and tightness. The simple starting treatment is heat, massage, and hot showers. If this does not improve, check with your primary care physician. They may either refer you to physical therapy or get an MRI of the back.
