Mononucleosis : Mono is a viral illness that can come from any object (cup, toothbrush, silverware, people etc). Most of these come in contact with the mouth. It is called the "kissing disease" because that is one way it is transmitted, but not the only way. It is possible you had a very subtle case previously, but she could have gotten sick from any object.

INFECTIOUS MONO: It is viral infection with sx of fever, fatigue, pharyngitis, adenopathy. Incubation period is 1 to1 1/2 months . It is self limited like the other viral infections.
