Ewcm and ovulation: Egg white cervical mucous (ewcm) is the stretchy clear mucous that comes can be detected just before ovulation. Ewcm is a response to rising estrogen produced by the growing follicle. Once ovulation occurs, estrogen falls, replaced by progesterone, and cervical mucous turns thick. Actual release of the egg is usually the day after mucous peaks.
