Part of the solution: Metformin is a drug that can help with weight loss but it is not a weight loss drug. It must be combined with the right diet and exercise to see results. It works best when following a low carb or paleo-like diet. Exercise is critical but start slow and work your way up. An integrative doctor or nutritionist can help with your diet and a personal trainer can help with an exercise routine.

Possibly: For individuals with diabetes, impaired glucose metabolism or polycystic ovary disease metformin can help regulate the glucose. Because of the way it does this there may be some weight loss but do not expect significant loss without effort on your part as it relates to diet and exercise. Combining a very low carb diet with exercise and metformin will lead to loss and maybe decrease in med dose.
