Many possibilities: Could be chemical reaction such as too much vinegar in salad dressing or reaction to sls (sodium lauryl sulphate) in toothpaste. Is just one possibility. Best to see a dentist or pal surgeon to evaluate to safe.

Lack of saliva: As we mature, we lose the ability to create copious amounts of saliva-sometimes medications are at fault-saliva is a great lubricant-keeps you from rubbing things together. Try a saliva substitute there are many available at pharmacy.
