Probably not: You would be much more likely to only mask the symptoms than to actually cure it. The doses required to treat syphilis are probably quite a bit higher than what you are getting for oral surgery. If you think there is any chance you could have syphilis you should get tested and treated properly. Otherwise the long term effects could be devastating.

Couldn't hurt: Chances are that the antibiotic will help treat the problem; however, you probably need a longer and stronger dose to cure syphilis. The antibiotic circulates in your blood to fight bacteria. It doesn't really care where the bacteria is in your body. The real question is are you taking a strong enough dose? Only your md knows for sure.
