Which drugs?: It would be very helpful to know which medications you are taking. On a rare occasion the psychostimulants like Ritalin (methylphenidate) can cause an akathisia. Antidepressants and antipsychotic medications can also cause akathisia. Restless leg syndrome is very similar to akathisia and has been noted to occur in people who are iron deficient. I know that you are anemic and that could be the reason why akathisia is flaring up now. It would be helpful if we had a better understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of akathisia, but we don't. Best wishes.

Not usually: Usually akathisisa is caused by imbalance between acetlcholine and dopamine- causing very unpleasant muscle feeling of akathisia with need to move. Most common culprit are antipsychotic drugs such as abilify (aripiprazole). Usually a beta-blocker can help rapidly. Adhd meds do not cause akathisia but can cause agitation and mania.

Akathisia/RLS: Akathisia is a side effect from certain medications. Typically this occurs with meds from the antipsychotic class because of Dopamine effects in the brain. It can be confused with restless leg syndrome. Some people have a slight degree of restless leg syndrome, and can be aggravated by many medications such as antihistamines, antidepressants, and yes stimulants. Very treatable-tell your md!
