Allergic dermatitis: From your description, it sounds as though you have an allergic or irritant response to an ingredient in the gel that you used on your face. Redness indicates inflammation. You were smart to wash it off (hopefully, with water). A mild Hydrocortisone cream used once a day for two days may also relieve the redness. Do not use this more than two days. Some find aloe lotion soothing.
