May be: Mucinex (guaifenesin) is not main treatment of copd. COPD is treated with inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled steroids. But main treatment is. Quitting. Smoking. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is just additional treatment to help bring up phlegm.

Ok: Mucinex (guaifenesin) is high dose robitussin. It causes cough, but does not break up mucus. You need pfts and possible bronchodilator therapy.

See below: mucinex should not help shortness of breath. It can help break up mucous to help cough it up. Do you have COPD or are you asking could this be COPD?
