Please tell me, could a root canal cause bruising of the gums?

Absolutely: Root canals are done with a dental dam in place. The dam is kept in place by a sharp clamp that sometimes digs into the gums. This is not unusual. Additionally, the anesthetic used for a root canal can sometimes cause a severe bruise at the injection site.
