Do really small high school athletes typically end up gaining weight after they get their first period?

Sometimes: When a girl going through puberty begins having periods is often related to how much body fat she has. A very low percent body fat, or a very high level of intense physical activity, may delay the first period. You may also have other health problems if your first period is delayed too long. If no period by age 13 or 14, it would be wise to see a gynecologist.
