Trazodone: Most of the sedating antipsychotics cause weight gain. Trazodone is a mild antidepressant that can help. An antihistamine like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or vistaril can also help. Sedative-hypnotics should be used temporarily for insomnia because they can be habit-forming. Doxepin is a strong, sedating antidepressant. Try to eat healthy, exercise regularly and avoid stressful tasks at night.
