Risk factors: Lab results are only one of the pieces of information in deciding to use statins. Does your mother have other risk factors like smoking, high blood pressure, abnormal weight, family history and more? It would be prudent to discuss the matter with her doctor.

Depends: Goal for lipids/cholesterol depends on patient's age and risks such as hypertension and smoking. Would not be able to tell you what her goal levels would be without having such information.
