Too numerous to list: Some of them could be a lung infection (pneumonia), bronchitis, pulmonary embolus, chest trauma, muscle spasm, shingles, pleurodynia (viral infection of the pleura), rib fracture, muscle tear, gallstones, hepatitis, heart failure, asthma attack, emphysema, thoracic spine disease with nerve root compression.
