Yes but . .: Generally marriage in Western countries implies a commitment of the male partner to care for the female partner through the stresses of life. Historically the economic partner has been the male and thus this commitment comes from the male. As ordinary sexual mores change, instances of the female asking first are becoming common. This is not traditional.
