IV form: All oral iron supplement will give you certain degree of constipation and to some-abdominal pain or other GI symptoms. Iv iron supplement will by pass GI tract & as the result will not give you constipation or abdominal pain etc. Take some otc medication for constipation such as miralax, (polyethylene glycol) milk of magnesia, colace, etc. If symptoms are worse and you can't tolerate, you should talk to your md.

Depends: Various forms aof iron are available and a trial and error approach may be necessary to find the one that is best for you. Taking a stool softener and drinking 80 plus ounces of non cafeeineated, non alcoholic fluids per day can help. More importantly, be sure you have received a thorough evaluation as to the cause of the anemia which may include a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy by a gi/colorecta.
