In terms of behavioural addictions, can damaged grey matter linked with hypofrontality cause irreversible damage, if not can it grow back or be repair?

Not clear: The "grey matter" of the brain is the cell bodies of neurons themselves. Physical damage to them is serious and can come from degenerative neurological disorders and traumatic injury. Other conditions such as schizophrenia and internet addiction can also show frontal lobe changes on MRI scan, which may correlate to behavioral changes in executive functioning. It's not known whether these resolve.
