Anticholinergic: Often the anxiety that goes with speaking triggers the autonomic nervous system to stop producing saliva which leads to a dry mouth and vocal cords. If you do not have a glass of water handy, the vocal cords can actually become tenacious and sticky , making it difficult to speak. Once saliva production begins again, you are able to talk again. Carry water to the podium !
