A member asked:

Does tough love work with an alcoholic?

Not always: Nothing works in every situation. Many experts indicate that an alcoholic must "hit bottom" or have nothing else to lose before they are willing to seek help. There may come a time when family and friends have done all they can and have to sever ties with the alcoholic to prevent themselves from being harmed.
